Mills on the Air 2025

On Sunday 11th May 2025, the club took part in Mills on the Air. This annual event is intended to bring together amateur radio operators and clubs to promote the hobby, whilst helping preserve some of the wonderful heritage of our Windmills and Watermills.

LADARC club members operated a Special Event amateur radio station with the callsign GB5HM at Hough Mill in Swannington in North West Leicestershire.
The weather was beautiful and propagation conditions were favourable, so we made many contacts on 40m and 2m with stations in the Shetland Islands, Scotland, Devon, London, Norwich, Derby, Germany and the Netherlands.
Some of the visitors to the mill showed an interest in our station and we explained to them what amateur radio is about.

We have already registered our interest with the organisers of Mills on the Air for the 2026 event, which is to take place on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th May 2026.
